Frequently Asked Questions
Please read our FAQ’s before sending us a message.
Does RMGV provide all equipment and tackle?
Yes. All of our guides are equipped with any flies, leaders, lures, fishing rods and reels that you may need to have a successful guide trip. These amenities are included to you in the price of your guide trip at no additional charge.
Are fishing licenses supplied as part of a guide trip?
No. Fishing licenses must be purchased before your guide trip. There are a variety of local sporting goods store in the Jackson Hole area who can assist you in obtaining a fishing license or you may purchase one online directly from the Wyoming or Idaho Game and Fish Department. You can check with us to verify which state license your trip requires.
Does lunch come as part of my guide trip?
Only on guide trips that are full-day in duration. RMGV provides a delicious box lunch complete with your choice of turkey, roast beef or ham sandwich, chips and fruit. A salad can be substituted in place of a sandwich if you'd like. Soft drinks and water are provided on all guide trips. Of course you're welcome to bring your own food and drinks as well.
What should I wear?
Warmer clothing is required during the months of April and May. Between mid-June and mid-August the summer temperatures allow for shorts and wading shoes. RMGV recommends bringing sunscreen, sunglasses, hat and a pull over fleece sweater at all times of the year. As September and October bring cooler temperatures, warmer clothing is required again.
Is rain gear provided if we don’t have our own?
Yes. All of our guides carry two spare ponchos in their boats for their guests in case of in climate weather.
Does RMGV provide transportation to and from the fishing locations?
Yes. As a courtesy to our guests, we can pick up and drop off our guests anywhere within the town of Jackson Hole and Star Valley area.
What kind of boats will I be fishing out of?
For our river fishing guide trips we utilize drift boats that accommodate 2 anglers, an angler in the front of the boat and an angler in the back of the boat. Your guide controls the drift boat with the oars from the middle of the boat between the two anglers. Each angler has their own stand up knee brace and seat complete with storage. For our lake fishing guide trips we utilize 21 foot Fish Rite boats equipped with enclosed cabins, heaters and downriggers. These boats are equipped with two outboard motors designed to get you to the fishing grounds safely, comfortably and fast.
How long are your guide trips?
Full day trips average 6-8 hours. Half day trips average 4 hours.
